CAROL G. WHITCHER age 75 of Sand Hill Road, Mount Morris ,NY passed away into the arms of the Lord, on Thursday October 13, 2011 after a long and courageous battle with cancer at The Vincent House in Wayland, New York. Carol was born on June 24, 1936 in Fillmore, NY. After graduating from Fillmore High School, she was a secretary for the admissions office at Houghton College. On August 25, 1956 she married Sheldon C. Whitcher of Mount Morris. After several moves, they settled & raised their family in South Glens Falls, NY where Carol especially enjoyed working as a secretary for the South Glens Falls Junior High School science department. Carol returned to college and earned her BA from Skidmore's University Without Walls in Saratoga Springs, NY in 1983. Carol & Sheldon were very active in the SGF United Methodist Church. Her greatest joy was raising her 3 children. They moved to western NY in 1986 where Carol was a successful Mary Kay Consultant and worked for Paychex Corporation. She was an accomplished seamstress & decorator, enjoyed cooking & playing the piano. She was always ready to try something new & surrounded herself with friends & family.

Carol was predeceased by her parents Clarence and Mary Gowdy of Short Tract, NY. Survivors include her husband Sheldon, and a sister Ruth (John) Stekl of Lima, NY. Her three children: Mark & wife Chris of So. Glens Falls, Dean and wife Kelly of Rush, NY, and Linda (Andy James) of Charlotte, NC. She is also survived by five grandchildren: Monica Whitcher, Becca & Torry Whitcher and Jordan & Jessica Bunce. She leaves several cousins & two nieces. The family would like to thank Debbie Hudson who cared for Carol, helping with her daily needs & providing friendship, for the past 9 months.

Friends may call Tuesday from 3-7 pm at the JOHN W. MARTIN FUNERAL HOME, 37 Chapel Street (Route 408), Mount Morris. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 11am at the Village Baptist Church, 39 Chapel Street, Mount Morris, officiated by Pastor David Ritz and Reverend Richard Hass. Interment will be at the Mount Morris Cemetery. The family wants to thank Hospice for all the care they provided and would ask that in lieu of flowers a donation be given to The Vincent House, 310 Second Street, Wayland, NY 14572 or to your local Hospice facility in Carol's name as a gift that continues to give.
