CHARLES P. PERITORE age 94 of 114 Chapel Street, Mt. Morris, NY, died peacefully on Friday, December 21, 2018 at his home.  He was born the son of  Christopher and Lena (Scorsone) Peritore on August 3, 1924 in Mt. Morris.  He graduated from Mt. Morris Central School in 1942.  He served in the Army during World War II from 1942 to 1946. Charles served in the Pacific Theater on the Island of Ie Shima with the 413th fighter group and the 34th fighter squadron.  He was involved in the hard-fought battle of Okinawa and was awarded the Meritorious Service Medal, the American Defense Medal and three Bronze Stars. He was a member of the Army National Guard—the 121st Armored Calvary of Geneseo NY where he earned his 20- year letter.  Charles served as a drill instructor for 20 years at Fort Drum and four years at Leonard Wood in Missouri.  He led the Drill team and firing squad following WWII, and the team won many honors in area competitions.   Charles went on the Honor Flight in 2009 and spent two days in DC visiting the 2004 World War II Memorial.  He married Bertha Barcomb on December 7, 1946.  He worked at Craig Developmental Center for 38 years first as a locksmith and then as a Sr. Maintenance Supervisor.  He was a member of St. Patrick's Church, CSEA Retirees for 61 years where he served as past president as well as a past State chairperson for 21 years.  He was a life member of the Mt. Morris American Legion, VFW and a member of the ARC of Livingston and Wyoming County.  He was so very proud of his family and loved spending time together.

Charles is survived by his loving wife of over 72 years, Bertha "Bert"; children, Sharon Peritore of Mt. Morris, Dale (Richard) Cenzi of West Henrietta, Jean Levey of South Livonia, Charles J. Peritore of Florida, son-in-law Bruce Levey of Mt. Morris, seven grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.  He was predeceased by brothers Christopher Peritore and Joseph Genduso and Sister Dolly Ann Peritore.

Friends may call Thursday from 4 - 7 pm at the JOHN W. MARTIN FUNERAL HOME, 37 Chapel Street, (Route 408), Mt. Morris.  The funeral mass will be held Friday at 10 am at St. Patrick's Church.  Interment with military honors at St. Patrick's Cemetery, Mt.
