H. David Long passed away peacefully early in the morning of January 4, 2013, surrounded by his family. Born on April 15, 1925, in Mount Morris, David had a reputation for living life to the fullest. In 1942, he joined the Navy at age 17 and served aboard the USS Iowa, which traveled to Newfoundland, Algeria, San Salvador, British West Africa, and the South Pacific.

At the end of his service, in 1946, Mr. Long, known by most as Dave, entered the world of business selling sporting goods to sports stores and wholesale distributors. In 1952, he married Joanne Keller, the love of his life, and they had four children: Lawrence, Andrew, Francis, and Laurie.

Dave joined the Van Dorn-Swett Insurance Agency in 1955 and eventually bought out his partners. Several years later, his son Andrew K. Long joined his company and owns it now under the appropriate title of The Long Agency, Inc., located in the heart of Mount Morris.

When Dave retired from the insurance business, he and Joanne traveled around the world visiting many countries in Africa, Asia, Australia, Central America, and Europe. While at home on Conesus Lake, he loved sailing, playing tennis, biking, and meeting with his good friends at Minnehans. He also enjoyed skiing at Swain until his mid-eighties, even taking his children and grandchildren on ski vacations to Colorado and Utah.

Dave loved to laugh, share stories, and is greatly missed by his neighbors, long time friends, and especially, his wife of sixty years, Joanne. In addition, he will always be remembered by his children and their spouses, Lawrence (Mary) of California; Andrew (Vicki) of Conesus Lake; Francis (Marie) and Laurie Long Marcum (Bill) both of Colorado. Plus, he provided wonderful memories for his six grandchildren: Jeffrey, Andrew (wife Katie), Kelly, David, Emily, and Will.

Husband, father, grandfather, and friend: Dave will be greatly missed by those fortunate enough to have known him.
