JOHN R. "Handsome Johnny" BAREND age 82 of 5468 East Avon Road, Avon, New York, died peacefully at his home on Tuesday September 20, 2011. He was born the son of John and Grace (Wright) Barend on March 27, 1929 in Rochester, New York. He was a veteran of the Navy from 1946 to 1948 where he started wrestling. John was a former World of Wrestling Legend for nearly 25 years having wrestled in Hawaii and Japan. He married Anita "Annie" Lum in Hawaii on September 27, 1967. After retiring from wrestling John and Annie bought the Twin Swan Motel on Routes 5 & 20 in East Avon, NY from his Parents in 1971 which they operated until 1996.

He is survived by his Loving wife of nearly 44 years Anita "Annie". 1 brother Leo Barend of Sodus. 1 Niece and several cousins and his beloved Black Lab Joy. He was predeceased by his parents John and Grace Barend.

No Prior Calling. Private interment services will be held at White Haven Memorial Park in Perinton, New York. Memorial Services will be held Saturday October 22 at 3 pm at the First Presbyterian Church, Routes 5 & 20, East Avon, NY. The Reverend Thomas Taylor officiating. Arrangements by the JOHN W.
