Sheldon Chester Whitcher, 91, of Mt Morris New York passed away peacefully on April 2, 2025 in Rochester, New York.

Born in Mt Morris, New York on August 16, 1933. Sheldon was the son of Chester Whitcher and Louise (Haas). He graduated from Mt Morris High School in 1951 and married Carol Gowdy in 1956.  He ran the family farm for several years before starting a 32 year career with Eastern AI Corporation, managing large sales territories in the northeast.  Sheldon & Carol settled in South Glens Falls, NY in 1966 and raised their 3 children there.  During those years, Sheldon and Carol were actively involved with the South Glens Falls United Methodist Church & the Marriage Enrichment program.

Giving back to the community he had grown up in was a goal of his.  After his retirement in 1994, Sheldon and Carol moved back to Mt Morris where he served on the Mt Morris Republican Committee, the Chamber of Commerce and was head of the Mills Mansion restoration project.

Sheldon was known for his boisterous laugh, his quick wit and his loud piercing whistle that he used to call the kids in from across the neighborhood for dinner. Making people laugh was a gift he loved to share.

Sheldon is survived by his son, Dean Whitcher (Kelly) of Rush, NY and their children Becca D'Ambra & Torry Whitcher, his daughter, Linda Whitcher James (Andy) of Denver, NC and her children Jordan Bunce & Jessica Sartin, his daughter-in-law, Christine Whitcher of South Glens Falls, NY and her daughter Monica DiLorenzo as well as three great grandchildren.  Carol's sister, Ruth Stekl, & her husband, John, survive as well. The family would like to thank Sheldon's friend, Anthony Andolina, for his friendship and care.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Carol, his son, Mark, and his parents, Chester and Louise Whitcher.
